Q: What are your fees for the dance classes?
A: Prices vary according to the length of the class
and the type of class. A current class schedule and price listing
may be found under our Schedules page.
A: The minimum age that we will
accept for dance class is three years old. Children must be
potty-trained as well to be accepted in a dance program.
Q: How many
students are in each class?
A: Class size is based on the type of class and
students’ age/ability. Class capacity is determined by the Studio
Owner/Director, Pattie King.
Q:
How often do the classes meet?
A: Classes meet once weekly for all classes.
Q: How
do I know which class is appropriate for my child?
A: .Our studio instructors will assess your child’s level of dance
and assist in selection of the appropriate dance classes. Your child may come
in to observe or sample one class in order to assess their appropriate level.
In addition, our summer classes are the perfect time to come in and try out
classes. They also allow our instructors ample time to assess your child’s
unique abilities.
Q: What shoes will my child need for dance?
A: .For our technical combination classes, students will only need
black tap shoes. We dance the lyrical ballet and jazz portions of the class
barefoot. Boys must wear black gore boots for ballet and jazz during recital,
but are not required to have them during their dance classes. Our hip hop
classes require tennis shoes to be worn.
Q: If my child misses a class, can it be made up on a different day?
A: .This will be on a case-by-case basis, at the discretion of
each instructor.
Q: Why does tuition remain the same during months that the studio is
closed for holidays (such as Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter)?
A: Although some months throughout our season may have less than
four weeks in them, due to holidays, others will have more. Therefore, tuition
remains a fixed rate throughout the school year session (September-June).
Q: Why can't I come into the classroom during class to watch my child?
A: It is distracting to both students and instructors to have
parents in the dance room while classes are going on. Please observe your
child's progress through our viewing windows.
Q: I feel my child isn't being challenged in the classes he/she is in.
What can I do about this?
A: You may schedule a conference with your child's teacher and/or
the studio director if you feel strongly about this. However, please remember
that our staff is highly qualified and places students in the classes that are
best suited for them technically and emotionally.
Q: Why is my child is in a different class level then the kids he/she was
with last year? Or: Why is my child in a class with children younger then
him/her?
A: All children develop at different levels. This is most telling
in dance or athletics. Some children's muscle memory and motor skills are more
advanced than others their age. Here at Steppin’ Up Dance students are placed in
the classes that are the most appropriate for their level. Proper class
placement is much more important then ensuring they will be with their friends
from school.
Q: What is the difference between the regular technical combination
classes and the Production/Elite classes?
A: Steppin’ Up Dance Studio offers several levels of dance. The
first is a recreational program for the beginner dancer or those interested in
dance as a hobby or exercise program only. The classes in this program are all
Combo classes, tumbling classes, and all Hip Hop classes. The Production and
Elite classes are invitation-only classes for those advanced students who wish
to compete in regional and/or National dance events. Students who are selected
for either Production or Elite classes must take a minimum of two technical
combination classes in addition to the Production and/or Elite classes.
Q: Why does my child have to conform to the dress code for every dance
class?
A: It is important that your child wear their leotard and tights
so that it is easier for instructors to see body placement and make the proper
corrections with body placement and alignment. Also dancer's hair must be
securely pulled back from their face, in a ponytail or bun, so dancers will not
be distracted by loose hair.
Q: What is the recital participation fee?
A: Your monthly tuition does not include participation in our
production. The recital fee goes towards paying for rental of the auditorium,
backdrops, and all printing and advertising associated with the recital. Our
recital is a large annual production which goes well beyond what many other
studios offer. This is an event not to be missed. As a reminder, we will offer
an annual fundraiser to help students raise the $30 recital fee if they choose
to do so.
Q: Do I have to bring my child to the dress rehearsal for recital?
A:. Yes, dress rehearsal is mandatory for every dancer- from
beginners to our competiton level dancers. Our annual recital is a large
production. As with any production, a dress rehearsal gives our performers the
opportunity to run through the entire show prior to performing with an
audience. This makes our recital itself run much more smoothly. It also gives
our students, who must remain backstage during the recital itself, the
opportunity to watch the other recital dances and experience the magic of the
recital for themselves.
Q: During the recital why can't I take pictures and video of my child?
A:. You may take video and pictures during our dress rehearsal.
However, our recitals are professionally videotaped under a contract with Mr.
Video. Therefore, no pictures or videos will be permitted during the actual
recital.
Q: During the recital why can't I take my child from the dressing room
and leave when he/she is finished dancing?
A: All dancers are in the grand finale at the end of the show.
Also please imagine how disruptive it would be to have audience members
continually getting up and down during our show to get children. Other parents
sat and watched your child perform, please show them they same courtesy and
support ALL of our dancers.
